Mind, Body, Spirit, Heart is the theme of the 23rd Annual Spirit Run, (formerly â€śsobriety runâ€ť) sponsored by the Red Lake Chemical Health programs of Red Lake. The Leech Lake youth chemical dependency prevention programs are also involved in the event. The 200-mile journey will kick off with an opening ceremony and remarks at 10:00 a.m. July 31st at the Red Lake Pow wow grounds and will conclude August 3rd in Sawyer, MN. Using the Native American medicine wheel as a guide, this yearâ€™s participants will carry a message of wellness and balance in mind, body, spirit and emotions.
Volunteers from across Minnesota are needed on Saturday, August 17 to participate in a
statewide search for starry stonewort, one of Minnesotaâ€™s newest aquatic invasive species. Hundreds of volunteers will gather at local training sites statewide to learn how to identify starry stonewort and other aquatic invasive species and search for them in area lakes. Early detection is critical for control. This event is free, but registration
